Graphics Card/Processor Question

Post by pwest »

Hi:

I recently upgraded from an aging dual-core Athlon machine on which I could (just barely) run PowerSDR (in the background, with the panadapter off), WSJT-X, and Gridtracker with my Flex-1500. My new Intel NUC8i5BEK runs all these, with the panadapter on, at about 25% CPU load, with no problems so far.

From the Task Monitor, I see that GridTracker exploits the built in GPU, as does Chrome, but that PowerSDR doesn't touch it. Is there anything I can do, settings or driver-wise, to get any processing offloaded to the GPU?

Thanks,
Phil

Not really. PowerSDR uses some tricks for fast display updates, but does not use DirectX (or similar) to take direct advantage of the GPU's.

But luckily multi-core/multi-thread1 CPU's come to the rescue.
I have a AMD Ryzen 6 core (12 thread), so PowerSDR averages 5% cpu

Its still important to have a fast graphics card or chip, and very nice to have a solid-state hard drive.
