Receiver Only Enhancements

Post by wd5jko »

Darrin,

I use a Flex 5000 as a receiver to my vintage Gonset Transmitter. Using the "Receive Only" box checked, and keying the PTT line from an external relay, and I have an effective setup. Running 2.8.0.104 presently.

Was thinking of other receive only enhancements. For example, keep the RCVR on and mute the audio instead (select-able). Go a step further and disconnect, or switch the antenna input to offer tools to minimize overload, or connect a 50db attenuator inline. Perhaps offer other settings such as selecting "spectrum mode" or something else so one can monitor their transmitter when in XMIT mode.

Just wondering if something like these enhancements are doable?

Thanks,
Jim

Jim,

I guess you could experiment with leaving the receiver on, but disconnect the ant (i.e. set the ANT panel Receiver 1 to N/C) and step up your power and watch the S meter and Panadapter.
If your able to see a signal, but no overloading (with a legal limit signal), I could make that an option, so you could view your transmitter output.

Otherwise, you would (like you said) need to make (or purchase) an 50db RF sampler.
But (with an active Ant input) then it might get dangerous if someone doesn't hook it up correctly.
I wouldn't want to do anything that might blow up the front end of someones radio. :0
