Windows 10 pro v1809

Post by almarc11 »

Has anyone tried running a Flex 5000 on the subject version of Windows? I did the update from v1803 and could not get the Flex to talk to Firewire even though device manager reported that both devices were okay. Every time I would try and start PSDR it acted like the radio was turned off. I reverted back to v1803 and everything works again.

I have been running 1809 for a while (along with a couple of updates to 1809) with no issues.

But I have heard of a few people that upgraded from Win7 to Win10, with no issues, until they installed one of the major Win10 updates.
Usually the solution is to install the "Legacy" driver for firewire (search my webpage for info).

I just tried again to upgrade to Windows 10 v1809 from v 1803 and am having the same problem. I can't get the Flexradio app to see the radio. It always reports "no devices found". All the items in device manager look ok. I tried reinstalling PSDR v2.8, and that went okay, but still can't start PSDR. I'm using the legacy driver for my Firewire device, but still no luck.

So your saying you did a "Restore" back to 1803 and it started working again, but then did another update to 1809 and no joy?

In that case, I would try a different Firewire card.

i am running windows 10 pro 1809 for sometime and have been having problems with running my 5000
it was running without any issues for a couple of years ..
my computer updated windows automatically like its been doing for years and didn't know when it did .. i did the update for PSDR from your site this was several updates ago .. i am not sure if the windows had updated at that time or not and had no idea there were issue with it until a couple of days later when i went to get on the radio . it will start to load the PSDR program the PSDR screen comes up the bar that's on it showing it loading will get tro about half way then it just goes away the computer is still on the only thing on the screen that changes is the PSDR screen vanishes .. i can delete the program reload it and it will start up if i change any setting when i turn it off it will do what it did PSDR screen comes up it shows it loading about half way if goes away .This is what i have done so far to try and get it to running
deleted the program thru windows delete program screen
reloads it from your website the complete program
i have gone in and first deleted the program like i did before but this time i went into c drive and deleted every folder and its contend that has flex on it
i deleted the driver for flex i then done a clean install
it loads the program i can run my radio with the settings it has when it loaded if i change any setting from the setting it loads when installed it runs until i turn it off and start it back up it starts the program loads to about half way and it gone.. I have checked the firewire to make sure it hasn't worked lose its hasn't device manager says its running good .. i can bring up the flex radio global radio program it comes up show's it seen the radio when its not loading
so i have done everything but set fire to it .. can you let me know what i am missing to get this working .. i don't feel like its the radio itself but i could be wrong any help anyone can give me will be appreciated

John,

Are you running .172? Make sure you are running the latest version. Earlier versions had issues not saving the TX EQ settings properly (even if you dont use it). This happened because I added a bunch of TX EQ features.

If PowerSDR has trouble loading up your database, and crashes, the fastest way to get it up and running, is to go into the database folder:
%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\FlexRadio Systems\PowerSDR v2.8.0\
and remove all your database files (with your radios serial number in the file name). There can be up to 5 files

It should then start running .172

The only other issue I know of is when Microsoft does their overnight updates (especially major updates) and some older FireWire cards start acting up.
But I dont believe your issue is related to this.

After you delete the files to force a factory default,
Open PowerSDR and do a CTRL+SHIFT+C
Then click "Reset Checksum" button

Then close that window, and shut down PowerSDR, see if it loads back up without crashing?

Then go ahead and change just the TX profile (like your high and low TX settings), then close and see if it reopens without a crash?

i think that got it.. first just deleted the 5 data files it booted up then shut it down and it would crash loading so i went back and deleted the 5 files that were there this time done the reset you said do in the second message you sent on both PA 1 and 2 it booted up i made one change on the hi low setting on the audio shut it down and it rebooted then i went and made several more in the drop down window shut it down and it rebooted.. one thing i am noticing it is rebooting twice as fast as it has been i think twice as fast as its ever has its been so long since i used it for the first time so i cant be positive but i can say its faster rebooting now than it has over the past year

thanks alot for your help i really didn't want to set fire to it so you saved me there

update i thought that fixed it so i went on to work i turned it off but didn't close it out so i went on and did the setting like i have had them in the past.. the first time this morning i did just a few of them .. I made a couple of contacts turn it off close out the program went to reload it and it still is crashing while loading If i don't close out PSDR just turn it off when i come bask and turn it on it works its just crashing when its loading anyway i delete everything connected to this program and do a fresh install without going thru the C dxrive after its deleted thru windows and searching for every little file and deleting it ..
I am no computer programmer i can follow instruction and click here click there but that's as far as i can go

It must be something in the EQ settings.
tell me your EQ settings and I can try and duplicate your issue and fix it.

I noticed you have the "Both" checkbox ON, but you have the 10-band selected.
I may need to update the code because that should not be allowed.
You would need to have the 28-band or 9-band selected if you want to check the "Both" box.
But I will test it.

go and install .173
That will automatically clear the "BOTH" checkbox if you click onto the 3band or 10band eq.

High all,

Enjoying the conversation...

Was doing fine here with Win 10 2004 until I downloaded 2.8.172. Would not open PowerSDR until I deleted the 5 database files. Then I uploaded my dataset from dot 165...Seemed to work, but was getting blue screen of death at random.

Then I find out that my Nvidia GeForce 750 Ti Video card had a recent major driver update to deal with many things, including the BSOD with Win 10 2004. Only have had one BSOD since, and that was with a million tabs open on Firefox, multiple SDR receivers streaming, and same with You Tube. Was changing bands on the Flex over and over till it happened. Has not happened since.

Over the weekend, I upgraded to dot 174 PowerSDR, and that went smooth. Only issue since the database reset and upload from dot 165 is no matter how I setup PowerSDR, whenever I reload it, it always comes up on the same frequency, and various settings...even though that frequency is not in a band stack.

Jim,

Someone else was emailing me about v2004 causing BSOD randomly. But he deleted the Restore option, and so could not do the ROLL BACK restore to his prior v1909. He kept checking for driver updates to cure his PC, but decided to just do a clean install of v1909 (which cured his BSOD)

If you want to ROLL BACK: Windows Settings->Update & Security->Recovery->Go back to previous version of Windows 10. I believe the roll back is available for 30 days after you upgrade to v2004.

If you changes settings, but they are not saving / restoring, then you may need to do a Factory Defaults, or try setup->import database from another backup database file. When I add features to the database (like the 28 band TXEQ) is sometimes causes issues with older database files.
