60m band offset

Post by EI8KF »

I recently bought a Flex 5000A from the a seller in the UK and installed PowesrSDR v2.8.0.250. I had the rig up and running pretty quickly but noticed something odd on 60m. The TURF region was set as 'UK_Plus' but for some strange reason I was unable to hear FT8 signals on 5357 and mode DIGU selected. If I tuned to 5377 LSB I could hear FT8 signals and likewise any voice USB transmissions were also offset by about 20Hz and readable only in LSB. I checked the same sigs on the Hack Green Web SDR so obviously something was amiss.
I contacted Flex and eventually after uninstalling, reinstalling and trying various things it was suggested that I run some diagnostic checks using v2.7.2. I ran the checks, all passed and tuned to 5357 and lo and behold FT8 sigs were there. I installed v2.8.0.250 and the same problem happened.
What do I need to change in software to receive correctly on 60m band?? When I ran v2.8 I could TX but not RX, with v2/7 I can RX on the correct frequency but not TX.

I would need to see a screen shot of what your talking about? The screen shot needs to be of the entire console screen and in full resolution.

Also, uninstalling / Reinstalling rarely, if ever, fixes anything.
If PowerSDR acts strange its best to remove the database files.
Usually you need to go into the database folder and remove all 5 database files to force a clean factory default settings.
folder: %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\FlexRadio Systems\PowerSDR v2.8.0\
The 5 database files have your radios serial number in the file name.

After you get it setup and everything working, make sure to setup->export database (to save a backup database)

Screenshot of my 60m receive. I've also taken a video of a UK station in QSO on both the Hack Green web SDR where the station is on 5371.5Khz USB and on PowerSDR where I had to tune to, 5401.3 LSB to receive the station. I can send that file to you if you like..?

A few things I noticed.
It looks like you have your setup->audio->primary->SR = 96khz instead of 192khz
You should not have VAC2 enabled (1 or 2 but not both). And you dont need VAC1 enabled unless you need the audio sent to your PC.
TNF should only be on if you need to create a TNF (using the +TNF button)

Do you want UK_plus or some other Turf Region?
CTRL+SHIFT+D ->Low level hardware control->TURF
this will allow you to change the TURF

Then go into the database folder: %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\FlexRadio Systems\PowerSDR v2.8.0\
and move all 5 files (with your radios serial number in the file name) out of this folder.
This will force a EEPROM calibration read and a new database.

also try a setup->General->Calibration->5.0000 (assuming you can hear WWV on 5mhz)
does it calibrate?

If it still is acting strange, you might try changing the TURF to US, cycle power and hit the UpdateBandText button after you power up PowerSDR and see if anything clears up?

I am not sure how the software can even do what your describing?

I'm unable to set the Primary Sample Rate to 192k as when I try to change it PowerSDR crashes.

I have tried various TURF regions without success, I'm still unable to copy FT8 at 5.357 using v2.8.0.251.
When I ran diagnostic checks using v2.7.2 I was able to copy and decode FT8 at 5.357 DIGU.

The issue is with v2.8, the rig is fine.

Verifying that 2.7.2 works means that all you need to do is remove the 5 database files per my prior response and it should work fine, since .251 is working here.

Assuming is Stopped when you try and change the SR, If PowerSDR crashes when your switch to 192khz indicates your FireWire card or motherboard is unable to handle the higher speed.
