Suggestion: Layout

Post by K2GC »

I know this is likely a ton of work....

But - would it make sense to re-arrange the layout of PSDR to make the second RX not appear as an after thought?

The location of all the second RX controls feel out of place, and not intuitive.

Just thinking out loud, but if there was a way to stack them along the right with the watefalls, having RX1 on top, RX2 on bottom?

I certainly could take a screenshot and cut/paste and chop it up to show what I was thinking....

Mike,

I agree the 2nd RX appears to be an after thought.

I was thinking of creating an alternate screen, and leaving the standard screen as is at this point,

Yes it would be very time consuming to rearrange the layout.

If I do come up with a good enough layout, I may do it.

If I get bored, I will mock up what I have been thinking. Shouldnt be that hard to make a good mock up for you!

Granted, I think the hard part in the end will be varying screens and aspect ratios... what works good for me, may not for others.

I would probably eliminate the automatic "origami" size adjustment that takes place when you resize the PowerSDR screen. It appears the layout was chosen so that you could see everything with a minimal resolution (or reduce the size to allow 1 monitor to view PowerSDR and do other things on the same monitor).
I found it seemingly impossible to keep the origami code if you change/move anything (if you want to keep a nice large Panadapter area).

I would just assume everyone has an HD Monitor 1920 x 1080 16:9, and make it fit either half or a full screen

Not all of us use 16:9 yet!

or even that high res....

I am on a 1600x1200 screen.

I would use something different, but I keep coming across free screens! LOL

Whatever happened to that guy/company (Woodbox radio iirc) that was going to release a Collins SSB style transceiver "front-end-GUI" for PSDR ?

I had a bookmark (now changed :? ) that was titled "F4 Line for PowerSDR" and i'm sure that used to be the above "front-end" link....shame really as i was looking forward to being able to chop/change my GUI

You may be able to google "Images" of some of the Woodbox products.
He did a great job with Graphic design.

I have tried taking photos of Ham radio meters and using them in the current PowerSDR console layout, but they would be too small
(I was able to use the Drake TR7 meter, but that was mostly just for fun)
Even the Woodbox meters are/were very large, in comparison

I searched the images but could only find this old image (click to see) for a skin/front-end....i think iirc it was going to be a "paid" version. Shame it fell through :(
