PowerSDR 2.8 crashes with VAC error when starting

PowerSDR 2.8 crashes with VAC error when starting up with a Flex1500. here's the error:

VAC is running when PowerSDR is started.

any ideas?

Usually that means PowerSDR was saved with the VAC1 running, so at startup it attempts to start VAC1
But a device you had selected to use, is no longer there (i.e you unplugged a USB headset), and so crashes.
Either put back the missing device, or hold down the SHIFT key while launching PowerSDR to force a factory default.
Then if you saved a backup database, you can do a setup->import database
