Microsoft MIDI 2.0 Issue (CW Key input not working)

Post by ke9ns »

Microsoft updated MIDI 1.0 to MIDI 2.0
MIDI 2.0 was supposed to be fully backwards compatible but was not.
This causes the CW KEY input on the Flex radios to stop working, as they use MIDI
I believe this also causes DJ Console devices to stop working as well.

To disable MIDI 2.0 (go back to MIDI 1.0)
Go to: https://github.com/thebookisclosed/ViVe/releases/latest
download the intel zip file
unzip this folder
Open a Command Prompt window with ADMIN level privileges
and run the command:

vivetool.exe /disable /id:58988972
It should indicate that it was successful
Now reboot your PC

The CW KEY and any older MIDI devices will now work as before.

This is a better solution than uninstalling 4 possible KB updates (MIDI 2.0 was hidden in up to 4 different updates)

I tried all the solutions available on the internet, solved the problem in the worst possible way and without documentation. It worked for me, but I don't know if it would work for others or for how long, since it might fail again in a future update.

Drastic solution:

1- Export and save the key \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32

2- Completely delete the Driver32 entry in the REGISTRY:

\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32

3- Restart the PC and it's working!

Villas, thanks for your reply. I have not tried it yet.

I did try to follow Darrin's instructions. I could not find an update labeled KB5079473. The FLEX5000A was working prior to the last update (3/21/26). I rolled back that update and rebooted the computer. When I went back into uninstall updates section there was a new update with today's date (3/24/26). I tried to load the KE9NS software again, but got the same error message. I then tried to uninstall the 3/24/26 update and I get an error message. I get an error message "not all updates were successfully uninstalled". And still KE9NS software will not load.

I am be going to have to try "Drastic solution".

Are we the only two FLEX5000A users still on Windows 10?

Hi Lee,
I've been using Windows 11 for a while now, until early March 2026 when Microsoft upgraded MIDI to V2, and my DJ CONTROL MP3 E2, which I use to control the PowerSDR (FLEX5000A) and the Thetis (Hermes Lite 2 plus), stopped working. I searched the internet for a solution but nothing worked. Then I completely removed the entry in the Windows 11 REGISTRY that I mentioned in the previous post, and that solved it. The DJ CONTROL MP3 E2 controller controls all the functions I programmed for the PowerSDR and the Thetis (HL2+).

Hi Villas - I tried your suggestion this morning and still get the same error message when trying to load PowerSDR.

Things to consider:
I am using Windows 10.
I copied the Driver32 from the registry as suggested and then deleted the entry from the registry. I rebooted the computer. Still got error message. When I looked at the registry again, Driver32 is there again.
I tried deleting only Midi2 from Driver32. Rebooted and tried to load again. Still get error. Rechecked registry and Midi2 is back.

There must be something I am missing to keep Windows from reloading Driver32.

Lee:

My post is exclusively about the HERCULES DJ CONTROL MP2 E2 MIDI controller, not about whether or not the PowerSDR works with the FLEX5000. The PowerSDR/FLEX5000 works independently of the MIDI controller; in fact, the MIDI/HERCULES issue was not affected in WINDOWS 10, only in WINDOWS 11. My suggestion does not apply to Windows 10.

Update:
Exclusively regarding Hercules DJ CONTROL MP3 E2 controllers, with WINDOWS 11 25H2 (26200.8039):
There is no need to completely remove the entry in:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32

simply rename the entry in this key:
MidisrvTransferComplete
to:
MidisrvTransferComplete-ORIGINAL

And reboot your PC.

This solves the problem for those who have a HERCULES DJ CONTROL MP3 E2 MIDI controller to control the functions of the POWERSDR programs (FLEX1500/3000/5000) and for THETIS (ANAN and Hermes Lite 2).

WINDOWS 10 is not affected by this MIDI function upgrade.

Your startup fault has nothing to do with Windows updates.
This topic is only dealing with the Microsoft MIDI update

Looks like you removed an audio playback or recording device from your PC that you previously used for VAC.
Either put back the device, or You will need to remove the database files and start over.
You can search this forum for how to remove the database file and start from factory defaults.

It has nothing to do with MIDI
